This month Fundación Tropicalia, under the scope of the USAID/REDDOM project, together with the Agricultural Producers Association Juan Pablo Duarte of the La Gina community, have taken the first steps toward constructing two 600 square metered greenhouses, destined to produce between one and two new vegetable and/or herb crops in the area. The objective in building these greenhouses is to diversify agricultural production in Miches by providing training, technical assistance and infrastructure needs to local farmers. As farmers put their greenhouses to work, and are able to place their produce in local markets, thereby increasing access to fresh vegetables at reasonable prices, all parties involved in this project are confident that it will grow over time and be self-sustaining.

IDB/MIF Updates: First shipment of Miches' ginger to Merca Santo Domingo
Through our project 'Inclusion of Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) in the Sustainable Tourism Supply Chain in Miches', we support a group of thirty-two local producers involved in the cultivation of ginger in the municipality. After ten months of productive work, last week we sent our first shipment of ginger for commercialization in Santo Domingo’s Market.
Gallagher: Teaching girls their value
I’m a big fan of giving back and making a difference, especially when it is for children in need. I also believe that making a difference has no boundaries. So sit back and let me take you on a trip to the Dominican Republic. That’s right — the D.R., a place where many residents of our valley head to hit the beach, windsurf, kite surf and let the good times roll.
