Environmental stewardship is integrated across all our initiatives to foster a culture of best practices and care for our natural surroundings.
A unifying transversal effort woven into all our programs in economic inclusion, education, and youth and culture. Through initiatives like ‘Soy niña, soy importante’, girls and teens learn about coastal-marine ecosystems and how their daily consumption habits affect the environment. In 'Miches Vibrante', our cultural identity program, we encourage the reuse and upcycling of materials to give them a new life, including creating traditional local costumes.
We support the development of environmental and agriculture research for the improvement of marine coastal ecosystems within Miches. Research topics have included Laguna Redondas's water quality, value chain opportunities for local farmers, and water/carbon footprint for agricultural products.
We integrate responsible environmental practices into our daily operations, enforcing a strict no-single-use plastic policy to protect local ecosystems. We also prioritize local suppliers to boost the local economy and reduce carbon emissions, and we use collective transportation for large-scale events to minimize vehicle emissions.
We provide in-kind and financial support to help ensure that the El Seibo-Miches Hotel and Tourism Association continues to serve the Miches municipality. Key areas supported include the Marine Turtles Monitoring and Protection Program (Protortuga), the Participatory Cleanup Program 'Rescate Esmeralda,' and the newly established Miches Environmental Fund.
